Eye Exam and Consultation During your eye exam, Dr. Sylvester will ask you questions about any symptoms or issues you are experiencing, medications you are currently taking, any blurry vision, your work environment, and your overall health. Family history and previous eye or vision conditions will also be reviewed. Dr. Sylvester considers this information when determining any treatments or recommendations. We encourage you to ask questions during your exam.
Vision Testing Regular vision testing ensure that you always have the clearest vision possible. Dr. Sylvester provides a vision acuity test as part of a comprehensive eye exam. He measures how each eye is seeing by using a wall eye chart and a reading eye chart. The results are portrayed as a fraction, with 20/20 being the standard for normal distance and reading vision. Depending on the results of your evaluation, Dr. Sylvester may prescribe corrective glasses, contacts, or eye exercises.
Eye Function Testing In addition to vision testing, your exam will include an assessment of eye functionality. This includes tests to evaluate depth perception, color vision, eye muscle capabilities, peripheral vision, and responsiveness to light. Other simple tests are completed to determine if the eyes are properly focusing, moving, and working together. The results enable Dr. Sylvester to diagnose any underlying conditions that may be impairing the ability for your eyes to focus or work together.
Eye Health The overall health of the eye is assessed through a visual examination and tonometry. Dr. Sylvester evaluates eye health by visually inspecting the eye and eyelids using magnification and a bright light. To examine the internal structures of the eye, we may dilate the pupils, or you can opt for the Zeiss Ciruss 600 Retinal Exam, which does not require dilation. Increased eye pressure may be an indicator of glaucoma. We utilize the iCare puffless system to measure eye pressure without blowing air into the eyes. Dr. Sylvester reviews the results and discusses any necessary treatments with you.
